RACHEL COHEN
A picture-perfect location to inspire aspiring photographers to create Insta-worthy images.
Three aspiring photographers – Sarah, Scott and Sooraj – joined professional iPhone photographer Rachel Cohen at The Cairn to hone their skills, learn new techniques and create magical images of our distillery, our stunning natural environment and our whiskies.
Rachel started the session with an informing smartphone camera workshop, sharing her tips and tricks on how to achieve the best iPhone photographs.
Our three winners then joined our distillery team for a tour where they captured our buildings unique architecture and ventured outside to snap the beauty of our Cairngorms home.
With a visit to our restaurant, The Gathering, to sample our locally sourced menu, our winners also learned how to compose mouth-watering food and drink images.

"I'm delighted to have worked with The Cairn and the three winners on this project as I relish the opportunity to inspire other budding smart-phone photographers. I love sharing how to easily unlock the power of smartphone photography, new ways of seeing, and creative expression using the tools we always have in our pocket."

Meet Sarah, Scott & Sooraj, and view the excellent photography they captured at The Cairn.
Sarah
"I've been inspired to be creative and I’ve learned that it takes patience to get things just right. Creating a great image isn't about just a quick ‘snap’, you need time to consider your angles, lighting and composition which will ultimately create the perfect shot."
SCOTT
"Everyone has a smartphone in their pocket nowadays and it’s been great to learn from Rachel how to compose and edit my photographs. The Cairn architecture is amazing and my favourite photograph from the trip is one I took in the still house with the imposing copper stills in the foreground and the stunning Cairngorms landscape in visable in the back.”
SOORAJ
"I enjoy taking photographs of nature, and the Cairngorms is an excellent place to be able to do that. It was great to learn how The Cairn was designed and built to compliment and blend into the landscape around it, rather than being an imposing structure on the landscape. It is truly a beautiful place to photograph.”
