Next in our series of 'Meet the Team' we speak to Kate McGlew, Food and Beverage Host, to discuss her passion for hospitality.

What made you decide to work at The Cairn?

I used to work in hospitality and it's always been something I've wanted to get back into as I have a real passion for cooking. The Cairn was recruiting for Food and Beverage hosts, so it felt like a great opportunity to get back to what I love doing. It has been great so far and it has been an honour to work in this fantastic new visitor attraction.

What do you like best about your job?

People.

It is wonderful to meet so many new people from all over the world. Everyone is different and have unique personalities, so it feels like there are never two days that are the same.

The Cairn is an inspirational place - what has it encouraged you to do?

I have been inspired by The Cairn, and Gordon & MacPhail's, commitment to diversity, inclusion and mental health. I have involved myself in these projects and I am actively investigating these subjects to learn more about them, so hopefully I am in a position to help others in the future.

What do you like to do in your own time?

It may be surprising as I work with food all day, but I have such a passion for it that I'm always doing something foodie-related in my spare time too. I feel it is really important to work with and support local producers and I am fortunate as the area is full of amazing produce, created by different suppliers. Their product knowledge and products excite me and encourage me to try delicious recipes made using locally grown, seasonal ingredients.

As well as visiting the distillery, what would you recommend people do in the Cairngorms?

Search out the amazing local bakers, farmers, cheesemongers and chocolatiers that we have in the area. We also have some great bars and restaurants that are definitely worth a visit.
